My first girlfriend, Sharon celebrated her birthday yesterday so it is good to see she thanked me. I like being in touch with all I like........

Pat and I are finally going to get a short trip to Santa Cruz. I love it there.....great restaurants for 3 nights and sun and reading!!

We are back and on Monday we will start racking our 2023 wines. In July we will rack again to get ready to bottle our 2023 10 Month aged wines, you have plenty of time to order. I am interested to try the new Sauvignon Blanc wine in new 100% oak!

Tuesday, March 26, 2024

Still working on racking and thinking about what to do with the new Sauvignon Blank we are aging, so when do we bottle. I had a nice lady here today from one of of our French Oak suppliers and she said a few clients are aging Chardonnays in new French Oak for a year so:

We were planning to bottle this wine in July!! So we have a 100% oak aged wine harvested in September. Now do we bottle in July or January.........that is my decision!!

Another day! We are still racking! We had a rep from Francois Freres French Oak come and taste our 2023 Sauvignon Blanc blend and she advised to bottle in July. I agree so it will be done!

In the last two nights I tasted two 2016 Barolo's from Italy and I was impressed with how our first 2023 Nebbiolo barrel sample stands up to them. All Barolo's are produced from Nebbiolo grapes. Like I have said before, look it up if interested........I have been interested in making a successful wine that depicts the great Barolo's in Italy and I think I have finally achieved it in my new Nebbiolo I tasted last night. Sure it is only a barrel sample taken while we are racking all our 2023 barrels that were harvested last year during Harvest so time will tell.

Since the two 2016 Barolo's were much older than my 2023, I have ordered six 2021 Nebbiolo wines from Italy. They are not depicted as Barolo, I assume since they are from young vines like mine. So it will be fun to see how they compare to my 2023.  The description also said extended maceration was used which is traditional in Europe!! I understand that most winemakers in Italy have been in Families who have been around for 100+ years so they do not want to change something that has been a success in the past!! As most of you know I like experimenting and I do not like extended maceration. Extended Maceration is when a wine is left on the skins for 2 to 3 weeks after the wine has gone dry (No sugar left). I have tried it and I think the wine becomes more dry tasting and thus loses some fruit character by soaking back into the skins.

My sister died today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In the last several years we were not as close, but we had a big event in our life that we never got over. I will go into this tomorrow but I now............know...........I am the last survivor in the Family of my Father, Frank, my Mother, Vivien and Lynda now gone. I will take 2 over the counter pills to help me sleep and tomorrow will have much more to say about Lynda and us.............

Wednesday, April 3, 2024

Last night I did not do well thinking about my sister, I even had a paper ass, you do not want to hear more.

So this morning I even woke with an ankle pain. I had to stumble down to my kitchen and then down to the office. We have a split level so two big staircases, keeps me climbing everyday and isn't that about keeping my heart working. We do not know what happened to my Sister, she was 79.

......we all will die.........oh but maybe our grand children will survive older but the great medical experts need to figure out how to keep our vital organs and mussels and bones to be rejuvenated.........yes not in my life !!!

I just want everyone to know I am doing fine, I was not close to my sister years ago but it did seem we were getting back to seeing each other for family functions, now it will be sad to get together with our Family later this month.

The winery is fine with Pat's help but we are losing older customers, now my sister!!

I will travel off to Walnut Creek, about 100 miles to be at a memorial for my sister, Lynda on Next Saturday........

The next day after hearing about my sister, for some unknown reason I developed a swelling on my right ankle, my MD thinks it is Gout. I have to go back tomorrow since the swelling has not gone down for 5 days.......the obvious is to take a sample of Fluid from my swelled up ankle.......do you want to see a photo? That will see if it is Gout or calcium deposits.....................Stressed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh but I did get a nice pill from MD, Rachel Mayorga, look her up if interested. It helps me to sleep............

Tuesday, April 9, 2024

I did get some great sleep the last few nights, Do you want to know the name of the prescription? I AM still stressed about my sister. I have to drive on Saturday to Walnut Creek, 87 miles away in the rain to celebrate her life........I will make a speech. I may put it up on this dairy before a make it? This is my diary, my life......I will survive.

The Doc also prescribed Prednisone, never tried before, the swelling has gone now slightly, but she said to stop Ibuprofen and I see maybe the swelling is still there. .......Oh the good news, maybe? I go to a foot doctor tomorrow......................................stressed

Oh 8pm+ I am still thinking, I love what I do......I can't wait for our bottling of 2023 10 Month wines in July, including our first Merlot. Also I can't wait for our new 100% Oak Sauvignon Blanc. I know, all SB's lately have had no oak. I do remember 20+ years ago a few wineries had some oak in there Sauvignon Blanc. As far as I know this will be the first at 100% French Oak!!

Wednesday, April 10, 2024

More blood tests reveled I do not have Gout!! I do have a little high Calcium levels but not much so my Doc wants me to stop Prednisone and start 12 Ibuprofen again since Prednisone has contributed to an 8 pound increase in water retention, high glucose and my Blood pressure is high, plus it has not helped the swelling. I did not make the Foot doctor but that would not have been good since the Doc would not have had the Blood work details.

7+pm. I finally took the tarp off my scooter. I will have to put it back on Saturday since it looks like a good rain storm coming.........

Especially now with my ankle swelling up, I can not walk in the vineyard. BUT did go out in the vineyard for the first time this night! Catarino kept on mentioning about the Nebbiolo. OK I finally saw the nebbiolo tonight and the shots are out more than any of the others. I will get Catalina to get some pictures on Friday...............
