The vines know it is spring! The first 5 pics are of Old Vine Zinfandel planted in about 1895 so about 130 years old and still going strong!

This last Picture is a vine of Nebbiolo that was budded over last Spring. This year we will have a small crop and next year a good size one. We will make our first Nebbiolo varietal this year.

so tomorrow........
I have 6 lobsters from Costco, live so what should I do........more tomorrow

Thursday April 20, 2023

So the lobsters came in Tuesday and it was a trip!! How do you cook live lobsters? I had 6 to kill and I heard none of them scream. Pat was not up to hear so maybe she could have herd them die? SO after what did I do with them?

Tuesday we had 3 for dinner with just a salad and fresh baked bread. We had mostly the claws and tail, but I did eat some of the body, so much juice and flavor. I know some so called experts advise not to eat the tomalley but I have been eating the insides of fresh live cooked crab and lobster for my whole life and I am still alive.

Also on Tuesday I did steam the other 3 lobsters for 8 minutes and had planned to freeze them BUT they were so juicy and fresh I changed my mind and decided to do a Paella. So yesterday I took an hour off in the morning and shucked as much of the lobster from the shells to save for the paella. That included some of the tomalley for me to mix in with my paella dinner. Of course I made from the shells of the 6 lobsters a very strong and flavorful stock for the paella. This was a lot of work but so enjoyable that I may do it again in 6 months.

So things are moving along for the new storage building or can I say, this has taken 2 years so I guess it is not NEW? More info when we get closer to putting barrels in the NEW storage building????

So right now we boxed up all our Club Shipping and has gone out. It was nice to get some money so I can buy more TSLA...........

As you know it is hard to relate wine stuff this time of year since we are not harvesting or bottling, but I still am excited about my new storage building.........

As you may know I will be 80 on May 3 and still going strong. Like the last 2 years I am starting to go out to the vineyard every night to see what is happening. I can say the Nebbiolo budded over from last year is up 4 feet with new growth so next year we will have a full crop

7+pm........Just got back from my scooter run.......so much fun, wish you were here, so much green! I'll have to ask Catalina, the Cat Lady to take some pictures.......................

Tuesday May 2, 2023

Last weekend we participated in The Dry Creek Valley Passport event and we are still recovering. Now we have to get ready for The Kentucky Derby this weekend. We will be closed to the public because we will be having a few close friends and relatives here to celebrate my 80th birthday, yes I will be 80 tomorrow. It seems like yesterday when Pat and I moved in here to this great property in 1979. There was only one small house here and now there are 7 structures for storage and living areas. The vineyard has changed so much also. There are still the Old Vines, 10 acres but the rest of the 9 acres of vines has been replanted a few times. Below is a map showing most of what is on the property.
