I used Uber for the first time yesterday. I parked my Tesla in my Mother's garage in Millbrae and had Uber drive me to San Francisco where My first born, Kate was 30 years old yesterday. I had a great time but the food last night was way too rich. We went to a new type restaurant on Filmore in San Francisco. It was served in a Dim Sum type way where food was carted around the restaurant for customers to choose their orders while seated at their tables. This time it was more California style............The first dish was a fabulous pork belly dish. Bryan and I both said it was great but too early in the rotation. We learned fast we had to say NO once in a while because we did not have our drinks yet. Kate does not like oak in any wine. She does not like my 16 month aged wines. i will open some next time to see if she has changed..........but this time I brought a 2012 Estate Cuvee aged 10 months and a 2012 Block One aged 10 months. These wines held up to the intense food. After making a mistake and not seeing the 1 in front of 40, I changed my mind and did not pick the magnum of Sancerre at $140, a wine Kate would like, but we had already had some drinks and 4 bottles more, one being a magnum, two bottles and my two bottles of Coffaro wine, three would do. There was next a perfect cooked salmon piece of fish, pink and fluffy, not cooked too much, perfect. Then there was a great steak tartar in a fabulous combination of onions and other veggies, and served with chips to die for. At this point we decided we were being rushed, since we were only there for 30 minutes. I settled on a nice central coast crisp Chardonnay, which Kate, the birthday girl was protesting. She does not like Chardonnay because she tasted too many oakie wines in the last 10 years. It was a hard and quick decision on my part because it had been 20 minutes up to that point. We also noticed we could order over a menu and pass on some of the cart things. We ordered 4 things and received only two. We kept asking when the last two dishes, one being lamb would be coming and we were appeased, they were on the way. Look, I had had enough food and wine (Yes we did open and consume most to the Coffaro wine and the Chard which Kate said was good and crisp with little oak), but Kate had a nice dish coming and Bryan was ready for the Lamb. Finally after more than half an hour someone came by after noticing 20 people ready to be seated and asked "What are you waiting for?". That was the time to ask for the check. We had cake and ice cream at Kate's place and I belched rich food the rest of the night. There was not bread or veggies to sop up the rich wonderful food. I will find out the name of this place but they are not the best I can recommend in THE CITY. All the people I saw from 7:30 until 9:30 were in their 20's or 30's, a loud and happening place with only wine to serve, very different and hard to get into. An adventure I am glad to experience once.

Brad just found a review of this place:   http://www.yelp.com/biz/state-bird-provisions-san-francisco  And here is their website: http://statebirdsf.com

Pat is away with Kate in The City so I am here ready to do a diary. Already I hvae made many typing mistakes, like "have" which happens a lot. So I want to get into decanting!!........

I read a great discussion on whether to decant a wine......http://www.winemag.com/Web-2015/The-Great-Debate-To-Decant-or-Not/.....so I thought I could relate my experience since I have been tasting great wine since 1969. In 1969 I learned about Bordeaux and other great wines. In the 60's the American consumer had been drinking only one gallon of wine a year, 5 bottles and most of those bottles were sweet sparkling wine. I had the great opportunity........I was in the financial district and could buy many great wines...........like I have said before, I hope, a group of us went to Napa and tasted Cabernet Sauvignon and went WOOOOOOOOOW. There was not any of us, 20 somethings college graduates, who had ever put in our mouths such a thing before. I started to get more interested than most of us but seriously, Einar, Mike and Jeff had some great input also AND then Jill had a great idea, she wanted my 1962 Lynch Bages. I had to fight her over it AND I would still have my last bottle, but Jill, Jeff and I had to indulge in the last bottle a few years ago and it was great..............I digress.........

My subject or point is about decanting. Like I said I have been consuming great wine more than anyone I know. Even so called experts, most of them have not experienced as much different wines as I have AND concentrated on them. Sure I know there are many like me.............I digress

So I heard about decanting again today (link above). I despise decanting!!!!!!! I could go on for more !!!!! but I will refrain. I was taught early by some one I respected, probably after a year or two, maybe 1972 when I really got into wine and I still have some of the great wine I bought then.............He said: TAKE ONE SWIRL IN YOUR GLASS AND IT IS LIKE ONE HOUR OF AIR AFTER OPENING. So What I got out of that is if I taste and then see how the wine develops by swirling, I can see how fast the wine can age. By decanting, you age the wine before you taste and it oxidizes a wine more like several hours of air or a year or more of aging, my opinion! Air, oxidation, is the enemy of wine. When someone comes in here I want them to taste wine out of my barrels and know that is the wine they will experience right away after opening the bottle and ONE SWIRL.................

8:00 Pm: It has been an historic day. Same sex ruling was interesting..............

Pat and I think the same, I think, but she does not read this diary so I should not speak for her, but I think she would agree we would not be interested in sex with someone else......how do you say it, I am having trouble. OK I know I do not want to have sex with a man. Hey a woman is fine. Does that mean I am going to decide for someone else........no.......so why do 4 of these so called experts and rule our constitution say it is only a right for the oposit sex? In logic I would say it would be better to be with one as man to man and also woman to woman? Logic Does NOT fit for me, Yes, some of it is give and take! A long relationship is based on thaaaaaaaat. In a good relationship, it should be your best friend to communicate with. Just a few thoughts.............Everyone should choose who they like or especially want to live with............so for some leaders say they want to restrict us, I do not agreeeee   so I have not heard from Rand Paul and what I have heard recently, I assume he is going to agree with his party which makes me sure I will not be sending him money..................
