I am not a fan of wood brick pizza ovens. The technology is from hundreds of years ago. It has worked in the past but it is out of date almost as bad as corks. OK so I am a minority on knowledge of this subject. I have never even used a Brick, Wood fired, oven. I have three pizza ovens but no Brick Wood fired one.........sure I have many BBQ s around here that we use for smoked goods and I am sure I could cook some pizza on the large one we fire up with grape vine stumps (Great favor) BUT I would not be traditional. Some people live in the past. I like to experiment and even though I make mistakes I have fun on my BBQ just like those great friends who have a traditional wood fired oven (I will see Russ and have fun with his oven down in LA). I like control mostly, and in the evening I like to escape but I also like to experiment with new things. Just think.......if someone comes in late for dinner, the wood brick oven is slowing down, the BBQ is ready to go in a minute................control

Your choice, you could always be traditional.............

8:30 Pm: My display is blank so I had to take a break. I thought of only one thing that had caused?.....the cats, OK still sort of kittens, but this time they were only half way responsible they had got me so upset last night when they sneaked into my office. Yes, sad, they are much quicker than I and I put a box back where they were getting into trouble and I guess I put too much effort on a cable. The box I placed gave a small amount of weight that after 24 hours the HDMI cable came out of my display......... so I am up and running again............... OK I think the kittens are adorable, they make me think of being a parent again...........

It is always an adventure any day especially on Monday as WE all know. Pat is in San Francisco and had seen 3 games lost to THE DODGERS,,,,,,,,,,,,but Pat was calm last night......Her quote: "We can't let a sweep get us upset". Hey San Francisco is a happening town but you have to know your way............I grew up there. Pat is still having fun meeting up with Kate after the game. Remember one good thing about the West Coast is we have three hours of light after the East Coast..........

SO, like I have said, Matt and I talk about every wine. He has his opinions and I listen. SO we are ready to START!!!!!!!!!.......Harvest

OK so my biggest concern on leaving is about my kittens, now 4 months old. They like to be distracted so they can play. They are growing so fast like in two weeks it can be like having a child but in a faster time period. Hey cats can jump up on your counter after 2 months. I could never do that. They are fast and so i get so guilty when they are coming in to the office and I have to nudge them at the door way. GiGI and Cory are having fun eating.........they are growing so fast they only think about food. I am leaving for a week and they will want to jump up on anything, like monkeys. What is that saying sleeping dogs don't lie,,,,,,,,,,,cats are the same with many meanings. Right now I hear them on top of my Model S. They want more Fancy Feast                  l will miss them after two days, but A break is good?...............So Matt and Cindi and maybe Catalina will be here while we are gone, BUT the kittens soon to be cats maybe will have to sleep a lot?........So what do I say to Matt, Martha and Cindi about feeding them...........

Still the only thing they like really, really like..............is Fancy Feast. I tried mixing Fancy Feast dry cat food with fresh canned Fancy Feast (The only thing they like) and they ate a little and then left last night. They only like wet Fancy Feast. They soon were up jumping around in my movie room last night.........I am amazed they have never stopped any thing from happening in the movie room but the office is another big problem..........now .....9:00pm I just fed them wet Fancy Feast so they are happy again.

10:00 Pm: This is the best time for leaving, we are just waiting for a little more sugar in our grapes. We are near Harvest and will start on August 11 for sure. The Pinot will be too ripe for sparkling wine but Pat wants us to make a Rose.........AND we have heard many of our customers ask for ROSE.

I remember my GrandFather George. He died in 1956 when I was 13. He was a quiet person especially when his wife died at only 49 years old...........another story.........George was still into his garden on Dublin St bought in the 1940's in an area on the way to Brisbane, by way of the Cow Palace, the home of many great events in my life time.

Like I said, George was a quiet man but I remember one thing, (maybe only happened in one night because it is so imbedded in my memory) George was smoking as usual but I finally looked over to his hands and saw burned marks all over his nails. I have never seen any thing like that again. I assumed at the time he was depressed from his wife's death. He was never the same after. But these fingers were not just dark from stains, I remember yellow burnt marks. We all have memories that we can not forget...........

This is for my history, maybe someone will pick up a thing or two from this diary and think of me...............

TSLA will be down big tomorrow or up big, I do care but either way I am not selling. They report their earnings tomorrow afternoon when I am on my way to Pismo Beach in a Model S, as you know, the only car Tesla makes. So why would anyone think Tesla will be a significant evolution in the car making scene, which will be still little if they can........ SO my big question is this: why does it matter? If Tesla can put Porsche out of business first and then Mercedes they have a chance. Elon, has a lot to prove..........I have driven many great cars including owning 2 Corette, two Porsche and three BMW 5 series and there is nothing like a Model S. I am sorry I just love my Model S...............

So we are off tomorrow to Pismo Beach and will be there by 4 tomorrow. Free charging all the way down to Long Beach and back, well over 1000 miles........

So we are Harvesting on August 12........I hope, suspect?........I love harvest and wait every year for this great time, when I can be more creative, complex and wow you better live and enjoy the drama.

On the 11th and for several days when I get back on August 6 we may do several sugar tests, easily done with two drops. The instrument may be interesting to any one into food, because it only takes two drops of liquid and you know instantly what the sugar content is in anything. This instrument is only $200 if interested.

So we go out and randomly pick several bunches of grapes for each variety we think is close to where we want them, as much as 10 pounds at times and thus hand crush the berries to get every drop out. (It is fun because our hands can be stained). I see a mass of juice and I stick my hand in the acid sugar and drop a few drops of juice on the refractometer and we know much more.                        I remember several times over the years when after seeing that simple task with a few drops, I would say "Let's Go" and "vamonos".......on those days we had two tons of grapes to crush within 2 hours. When Harvest starts, we usually do 2 to 6 tons a day. Like I said harvest decisions can change in a moment.
