Some of you are probably wondering why we are not making a Cabernet Franc this year, so I will try to explain. In 1999 I bought some first crop Cab Franc from Phil Jones and then was offered his 2nd crop Cab Franc for just the cost of picking. We were surprised that we received over three tons and that the quality was possibly better than the first crop. In 2000 we also received some second crop from Phil. Again it was more than we needed and of better quality than the first crop. SO in 2001 I just contracted for the second crop. BUT no one told the vineyard manager that I was to get the second crop cab franc. Yes, he cut off almost all the second crop before we could pick it. He said he did that so that it was easier for his pickers to see the first crop which mostly goes to Kendall -  Jackson. We thus received less than one ton of grapes. Even by blending I would be able to make less than 100 cases. The problem was that I already sold 120 cases of 2001 cab franc on futures. The ultimate problem was how would I tell some of you that they could have wine and tell the others that they could not. Also we will not be making a cab franc in 2002 thus I have decided not to make it for 2001. I have blended the wine into our Terre Melange. Customers who bought 2001 cab franc will be offered one of three options:

1) Full Refund
2) An Exchange for any of our 2001 wines of equal value
3) If we don't hear from you we will exchange the Terre Melange for the cab franc.

If you will notice I have clarified option #2 above. Some of you have already requested Aca Modot or Block 4 to substitute for the cab franc. Unfortunately we are running low on supply of those wines. Please e-mail Pat about the adjustments that can be arranged. I am sorry about the confusion.
