David Coffaro Vineyard and Winery Winemaker's Diary

Week 52
December 24 to December 30, 2000

Wednesday December 27,  2000

I like drinking close to a bottle of wine in the evening, but I'm a type of person that can not drink all day. Also I do not enjoy drinking during the day. So I like starting my first glass of wine at about 5:30 or 6:00. I can stand not starting till 6:30, but it is tough. The holidays is very hard for me, since some of my friends and relatives like to start earlier in the day. I play along, but don't really enjoy this indulgence. If I drink all day (rare) I get a sour taste in my stomach and don't enjoy the wine in the evening. I should not be saying this since some of you, including my best friends, enjoy and do handle wine in moderation at wineries during the day. That brings me to New Years Eve. I can pace myself on that evening only. I can consume wine for at least 6 hrs, but I have learned how to pace myself. The secrete for me is that I can not eat too much early, because it will make me tired and want to fall asleep. Also on that night, NewYears Eve, I start off slowly, by taking a nap in the afternoon and thus pretending that it is 5:00pm instead of much later.

My Raider partner, Kate (15 years old), is off to England with her drama class. She will miss the playoffs this weekend, but since her favorite team does not have to play this weekend, she will survive. Some of you have mentioned that I must be confident that the Raiders will do well, but remember they have lost 2 out of 4 games.

I just got a call from one of my best friends, Fred. If it wasn't for Fred, I probably would not be a Raider fan now. He dragged Wally and I up to Portland in the summer of 1967 for adventure to see a Raider game. Sure they lost to the Chiefs 51 to 0, but I got interested after that. I had never heard of the Raiders, but he was smart enough to know they were going to be big.
