There was a song way back when, some of you will remember. I was wrong it hit in 1963, not 1965..............
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOV96BCAvZchttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOV96BCAvZcIt was a very big song about love: You have to look at that link, song....................or this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAuPoFRugsM

otherwise pass on the next line and move to the Harvest Next week..............I am just trying to get ready.........

Oh, way back in 1963 I dated a nice girl and had a great time so what happened. I was in City College in San Francisco. So why was I in the East Bay on a Sunday 90 miles away? It was only one Sunday, a perfect date for lunch. I assume, everyone said I was too particular, It was a long time ago, but I want to document what I remember

Like I have said I try to remember everything and I have to put it here in my diary. I still enjoy all aspects of winemaking so I am fortunate.......I love what I do because I love the unexpected. When Harvest starts, I am ready

Tuesday August 8, 2017

I have a lot of problems with Tesla so I will charge in later Soooooooooo, let US get ready for Harvest...........

I had, not really accepted: my knee needs help, but I heard now, I need to get a full knee in November......SO in the last few days, my knee is fine, yes I am in denial........, not really, I am looking forward to have a new knee................Yes, today Catarino and I had a nice time in the vineyard. We both agree we will be harvesting fruit this week......

We are all excited, this is why we survive.........

It looks like there are more variables as I expected, just like every year.......WE can not predict the next harvest until a few hours before. The first Harvest is..................

It looks like we may do sparkling, whites or even DC Fusion.........we know for sure Harvest will be Thursday.....

Tesla is a problem, I should not say too much, oh why not.......We sent a message to a higher up and nothing has changed..........more tomorrow

Wednesday August 9, 2017

The sugar tests are in and it looks like we need another week for the new 2017 Luminaire white blend. Also the less ripe Pinot Noir needs another week for sparkling. But, we did find some young Zinfandel and Peloursin that will be perfect for the new DC Fusion. Tomorrow will be the first day of Harvest.........

8:00 Pm: The days are getting shorter all over the Northern Hemisphere. My favorite months are May and June as I have said before. I like Summer, hit the links at the beginning of this post and hear what was nice back in 1963. Kennedy was president and the Cuban crisis was over. Now we have Trump................

Let's talk about Tesla. Brad always says I say too much on my diary and that could cause a problem because People or organizations could read what I say and hold it against me. As you know I have no fear, I only state the facts......

I will make this short, I finally got the OK for a trade with the P100D. I will get what I wanted originally, a 100D with a range of over 335 miles. At 70 miles an hour or some turns I should get 290. As I have said I do not like to go more than 3 hours without stopping so 200 miles at the most. This Model S is a dream in Pearle White and bright white interior

I do not get back all the $30,000+ I have put up but I will get a maintenance plan and all I have ever wanted........long story

I have tried out this P100D which will go 0 to 60 in 2.18 seconds......I only tried accelerated half way down and Pat does not like the surge. I will be very happy with the 100D which will go 0 to 60 in 4.1 seconds. I found out to get this P100D to go faster than 4.1 seconds to 60, I have to warm up the batteries. That takes 45 minutes. I tried it over to Calistoga last week after warming up but who can find a spot to try that???? I sure could not find a spot SO I paid more than $30,000 to have this option......seriously: 0 to 60 in 4.1 seconds in an electric car is way too fast. I am turning in this P100D to someone younger or more daring than I. I look forward to my 100D in a few weeks. In the mean time I have this P100D which is asking me to GGGOGGOOOOOOOOOO

Thursday August 10, 2017

The First day of Harvest but no destemming!! Our destemmer is not working. We tried it out yesterday but today it did not start. We may have a new one by tomorrow. It's only money. The Harvest must go on. We have 1.5 tons of fruit for DC Fusion waiting in the winery..........

Friday August 11, 2017

We borrowed a destemmer so we processed the first grapes of the Harvest today. We hope to get the older destemmer going again with a new motor. The new one we are borrowing is smaller and harder to clean.

So today we destemmed about 1/2 ton of Petite Sirah that needed to be thinned. It came in at 16% sugar a little lower than we wanted. Then we had some Zinfandel from young vines at 17% and about 3/4 ton of Peloursin which came in at 18%. In all we are happy with this fruit which will be the start of our new DC Fusion. In the past few years we have blended this fruit with 2 or 3 barrels of Zp2c, but not this year. This year we will use most of our left over 2010 wines that were fermented with raisin like fruit from a heat spell, up to 116 degrees, in August of 2010. The high alcohol of the 2010 wines and the low alcohol of this new fruit will make a wine of 13% alcohol or lower. Some of our customers want a nice light wine. For the first time this year we will put some of the wine in new oak barrels to give it more character.

Tomorrow we will add some M/L culture and then on Sunday we will add 8 ounces of yeast to three fermenters which has the new fruit in them. 8 ounces is a great deal of yeast for just 1/2 ton of fruit in each of the containers. The high amount of yeast is necessary to finish the fermentation because we will be adding about 100 cases of high alcohol 2010 wines. On Wednesday of Thursday we will start adding the 2010 bottled wine, the equivalent of 1.5 tons originally. It will be fun. Come by on Saturday the 19th for our open house and see all the activity...........
