September 2 - September 8, 2012

	Monday September 3, 2012  Matt will be 30 tomorrow so i gave him the day off. The sugar samples I took today were not expected. The pinot to be picked on Matt's birthday was not ready. I got a reading of only 22.5 sugar, sweet but we want 24+ sugar which we will have next week. Patience is a virtue.  Thursday September 6, 2012 Nothing happening here regarding harvest. The weather has turned cold so the pinot is off until next week. We are not irrigating so we are hoping the Zin will move up in sugar. We will do another sample next Monday. Like I said last week a few years ago I put $5,000 down on an all electric car, the Tesla. Because there are few charging stations and the charge takes many hours, I have decided to ask for my money back. Also to purchase what I want it would have cost $80,000. Pat and I have decided to purchase a small car that gets 39 miles to the gallon. Pat has always wanted another automatic hatchback so we will pick up a new 2013 Ford Fiesta today. Pat is reluctant to drive my BMW and so she has been driving around in our 1998 Ford Ranger. I hope she will be happy. Jose interviews Catarino en Español: Jose interviews Catarino in English: Saturday September 8, 2012 It has happened many times before in 34 years of growing grapes in this vineyard.........the sugar readings are not going up. The high temperatures have stayed in the 80's for 5 days now and we need some in the 90's and better yet a few highs over 100. We cut off the water and it is possible we need a little moisture to encourage sugars to rise. I do admit the Zinfandel is looking better and so is the Pinot, but the readings I got from the Pinot yesterday was the same as Monday.....21.5 brix. We want action!!
