BEHIND THE BARREL NEWS
Spotlight and Wine Quip!
Matt's Unique Perspective on Our Wines
August. I can already feel the warm air coming like a convection oven turned to preheat. The grapes are starting to turn color now and within weeks we will be figuring out the first day of harvest. It happens so quickly every summer, with this year being no different. We recently received a new monstrous piece of machinery for the crush, an elevator. It takes the grapes from ground level and sends them via conveyor into our destemmer. This is something that sold us on paper, now we just have to make it work up to our standards in practice.
Early July brought the bottling of our 2010 vintage of wines and we'll finish up with the ZP2C in mid August, just in time for our party. Same as last year, we have once again decided to hold back some of our 2010 vintage for an additional six months of aging, which we'll be bottling in January, after a total of 16 months in the barrel. Those extra aged wines are being offered at futures prices now for the first time and are for sale on the website. Also, make sure to look for the 2010 Ultimate Cuvee, which is also being offered for the first time on futures. It's one of the wines that Dave makes and every single person loves. It also is one of our more expensive releases, which makes the futures price which you can get now even that much better.
In order to make a little bit of room for the newly bottled vintage, we are presenting a final pre-harvest sale on the last of our 2007 vintage. We are offering our 2007 Terre Melange and our 2007 My Zin, normally priced at $28 a bottle each, for $12 a bottle to Dave's Wine Club members and $14 a bottle to Vintage Circle participants. I don’t need to tell you that this is the lowest price since the futures offer on these wines 4 years ago! If you or a friend are not part of Dave’s Club or the Vintage Circle, it is still almost a 30% discount at $20/btl both online and in the winery. This sale most likely will finish off these two wines, so don’t wait around as it is first come, first serve. Click here to place an order.
Finally, we wanted to let you know about our futures pick up party that I mentioned above. It will fall on the weekend of August 20-21 and will feature some delicious grub and the big screen blazing live concerts. Of course if you are unable to make that weekend, know that you are welcome any other time to pick up your wine or have it shipped. If you come out to the winery, Cindi or I will be more than happy to grab a sample from the barrel of our wines which are going through extended aging. Hope to see you here!
Enjoy and Cheers!Matt Wilson
