BEHIND THE BARREL NEWS
Spotlight and Wine Quip!
Matt's Unique Perspective on Our WinesHere we are in the middle of summer and all is well at the vineyard and winery. The grapes are turning color and before we know it harvest will be upon us. For us winemakers, it is the time of year that we wait for all year long. In fact, we start thinking about harvest the week after it finishes every fall and here it is almost to us again.
We have just finished bottling all of our 2008 wines that will be released in August. It was a week of long days and it is good to be finished so that we can ready ourselves for both our party and harvest. On August 22nd and 23rd we will be having our first pick-up party for you, our devoted wine fan. Come on by and grab some food and have a taste of our 2008 bottled wines.
For this edition of the Behind the Barrel, we are featuring not one, but two wines! A first for us. We felt that the two wines taste really nice right now and we have been enjoying them many different ways recently. Sure there are some other wines that we have that are more summer fresh like our 2006 Fresco ($99 a case) or our 2008 Fresco Rosé ($19 a bottle before discount), but we think that the featured wines are perfect.
To begin with, we have our 2006 Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley) that has an amazing spice note and a lot of fruit. Then in the background there is an alluring oakiness that compliments the delicate wine rather than overpowering it. An excellent choice for barbequing, Italian food or even just to have a glass and sit outside. You will enjoy this beauty no matter the occasion.
Next up we have our 2006 Escuro (Sonoma County) and it lives up to its Portuguese name. This dark and tannic wine screams at you to have a piece of meat. Any kind of meat. I went really bold and chose to have blackened white fish with some awesome Cajun spices and man was it a great combination! Had that along side some cauliflower and cheddar puree (think mashed potatoes) and some green beans. Delicious.
Both of these great wines are offered at a discounted price and are a steal no matter how you look at it. If you are in the Vintage Circle, then you are getting them at $14/bottle and $168/case. If you are in Dave's Wine Club, then you are getting them for $12/bottle and $144/case. Otherwise, you can either go online or stop off at the winery any time and grab a bottle for $20, nearly 30% off its normal price.
So from me to you, enjoy these wines while they last because once they are gone, they are gone. I hope to see you at our party on either August 22nd or 23rd!
Enjoy and Cheers!
