BEHIND THE BARREL NEWS
Spotlight and Wine Quip!
Matt's Unique Perspective on Our Wines

December has come and the weather has just turned brisk for the first time. The leaves have fallen, the onions planted and we are beginning to prune the vineyard in preparation for next spring. Inside the winery we are putting the finishing touches on our ideas for the blends and preparing the wine for January bottling and blending. Oh, I almost forgot to mention our sparkling wine project is about to go into the bottle to begin carbonation and aging.

This year's harvest was very long and cool, which lends a darkness to the 2009 vintage. Tasting through the barrels I am seeing a common theme of more balanced richness and not just overripe fruit flavors that plague many hot years.  Our Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé, which will both be bottled in February, are tasting great right now and will be another stellar year of crisp and dry flavors.  Come on by to try them.

With this wine quip going out we are featuring our 2006 Petite Sirah (North Coast) which is one of Dave's favorite grapes. This rich and interesting wine has a lot of fruit flavor to balance out its dark tannic structure.  I have been enjoying it along with various meals and most recently a crispy chicken sandwich with a sautéed mushroom sauce and some triple cream cheese on a ciabatta roll. Phenomenal flavors that really balanced out.

This great wine is being offered to you at a discounted price and is a steal no matter how you look at it. If you are in the Vintage Circle, then you are getting it at $14/bottle and $168/case. If you are in Dave's Wine Club, then you are getting it for $12/bottle and $144/case. Otherwise, you can either go online or stop off at the winery any time and grab a bottle for $20, nearly 30% off its normal price.  Order online here.

Also, don't forget about our other great prices on the 2006 Escuro and the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon. Have a happy holiday season and come on by anytime for a Barrel Taste of our 2009 Futures. They are starting to really taste great, though young, and you can see the potential already. We hope you made it to our Open House party!

Cheers,
